Stamford Shoestring Theatre presents
The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh
Tuesday 5th – Saturday 9th September, 7.45pm
Stamford Arts Centre
Martin McDonagh’s film “The Banshees of Inisherin” won Best British Film at this year’s BAFTA and was nominated for nine Academy Awards.
“The Beauty Queen of Leenane”, his first play, established him as one of today’s great playwrights.
He holds our attention with an excruciating clash of characters who are locked in a plot that is equal parts funny, sad and violent.
Set in the kitchen of a cottage in the west of Ireland, this dark comedy centres on the brutal relationship between forty-year-old Maureen and her mother, seventy-year-old Mag.
Maureen has a last chance for love and happiness when she meets someone at a party, but Mag will do everything she can to wreck her daughter’s plans.
Tickets (£12; £10 concessions) are available from 01780 763203 and https://www.stamfordartscentre.com/whats-on
