Local celebrations for the King and Queen’s Coronation are being planned for the whole Bank Holiday weekend. This page has all the details.

The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla is due to take place on Saturday 6 May. Local celebrations are being planned for the whole Bank Holiday weekend.

Burton le Coggles

Sunday 7 May from 12 noon – Coronation Big Lunch, Burton-le-Coggles Village Hall

Join us as we witness a part of history in the Village Hall from 12 noon. Bring your own food and drink. The barbecue will be lit at 6.00pm for people to cook on. Lots of fun including:

  • Crown-themed house / garden decoration competition (judging Sat 6 May, winner announced Sun 7th May)
  • Wheelbarrow Relay (teams of 4)
  • Space Hopper Races
  • King and Queen Fancy Dress Competition
  • Coverage of the Coronation all day

Irnham

Sunday 7 May, 10.45am – Service of Thanksgiving, Irnham Church

A Service of Thanksgiving for the Coronation of King Charles III & Queen Camilla will be held at Irnham Church on Sunday 7 May at 10.45am.

Sunday 7 May from 12 noon – Coronation Lunch, Irnham Hall

Coronation Lunch in the Wedding Venue, Irnham Hall. The Stamford Stompers have been booked from 12 noon till 3pm. Further details to follow.

Coronation Mugs

Parish Councillors plan to provide Coronation Mugs for the children of the parish.

Monday 8 May – The Big Help Out Day

Monday has been declared The Big Help Out Day.

Swinstead 

Saturday 6 May from 11 am – Big Screen Coronation Ceremony, Swinstead Village Hall

Swinstead will be joining the country from 11am in televising the Coronation Ceremony for King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The Village Hall will televise live on the big screen and the bar will be open.

Sunday 7 May from 12 noon – Traditional Street Party, outside Swinstead Village Hall

Continuing with the celebrations, a Traditional Street Party will be hosted outside the Village Hall on Bourne Road. A toast to our new King, along with cakes and music will be provided.

Please bring your own picnic hampers with food, drinks, plastic plates, cutlery, glasses and where possible. The Bar will be open to purchase any additional drinks.

Swayfield

Sunday 7 May from 12 noon to 4pm – Family Picnic, Swayfield Recreation Ground

Family picnic to celebrate the King’s Coronation on Swayfield village Recreation Ground. Entertainment throughout the afternoon, games for children, presentation of a commemorative coronation mug for the children, and an ice cream van. For more details contact Alan Cusdin on 07842 160913

Preparations

  • The WI is decorating a throne on the Green.
  • We would appreciate you decorating your windows, garden, and planters.
  • Exhibitions at The Willoughby Gallery – Sculpture from stone to clay by John Crampin and Paintings by Valerie Rath
  • Visit the flower decorations at St John’s Church
  • There is parking available behind Number 10 (next to the Bowls Club) all weekend
  • Thursday and Friday, 4 and 5 May, from 10 am: Decorate St John’s Church for the Coronation Weekend. Donations of red, white and blue bunting, ribbons, flags and flowers of the same colours would be helpful. Saturday 6 May 9.30am to 10am – Coronation Church Bells, Corby Glen Church

A team of bell ringers under the direction of Tower Captain George Hayward will ring out the bells of St John’s Church, Corby Glen, in celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III. Take the opportunity to listen to and watch this historic moment, and enjoy the sights and scents of the floral decorations in Corby Glen Church.

Saturday 6 May from 10am – Big Screen Coronation Ceremony, Church Street Rooms

Community gathering at the Church Street Rooms to watch the Coronation on the big screen. Transport can be arranged. There will be donated refreshments available, but please bring your own food and drinks; there will be a glass of Prosecco to celebrate.

A time for the community to come together to celebrate. Bring table, chairs, food and drink (and sunshine!). IF it rains we will decant to the Church Street Rooms.

A Service of Thanksgiving for the Coronation of King Charles III & Queen Camilla will be held at Corby Glen Church on Sunday 7 May at 6pm.

Monday 8 May from 11am – Coronation Pro-Am Bowls Tournament, Corby Glen Bowls Club

A fun day for all the family to participate in a bowling competition. There is no charge for entering and no experience is necessary. All equipment can be provided but please wear flat-soled shoes. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Starting at 11am with an introduction to bowling and practice.
  • Break for lunch with sandwiches and drinks.
  • Guests will be teamed with a member of the bowls club for the competition.
  • The draw for the competition will be made and play commence at around 2pm.
  • There will be trophies for the winners and runners-up.

Coronation Afternoon Tea with Corby Glen & District WI: a selection of delicious cakes and scones; Tea, coffee and soft drinks also available

Free Bouncy Castle for children under 8.

Penalty Shoot Out Competition will be held at 3pm with three age categories:
1. Under 12s,
2. 12 to 18,
3. Over 18s.
Trophies will be awarded to the winners of each category.
