Burton-le-Coggles News: September 2025

August visit to Magnavale; Lincolnshire Riders and Striders from Burton; cancellation of Harvest Supper because village hall is suffering from subsidence

Visit to Magnavale

August saw members of the Burton le Coggles Parish Meeting shivering in –25° celsius while they toured the Magnavale site on the High Dike. John Edgoose, the site manager, told us about the work Magnavale does and that it is the largest cold storage facility in the UK. It is an automated high-bay clad-rack cold storage scheme with capacity for frozen and chilled food. At the moment it is onboarding new customers but already in August it was storing much of the 2025 British pea and blackcurrant harvest.

The Parish Meeting learnt that they employ over 200 people in a wide variety of roles. Magnavale are conscious of the impact on the local environment and have various ways to minimise their impact on our environment, for example providing a bus service for their employees, building up rather than outwards, encouraging a litter-picking team and by keeping disruption on our roads to a minimum. They also support and sponsor local children’s charities and have strategies to enable their staff to work to their best ability.

We really appreciated the warm coats we were given to go into the cold storage area and were amused by how our glasses steamed up when we came out again.

Riders and Striders 2025

The annual Lincolnshire Churches Trust Ride and Stride Fundraiser, which supports our local churches, was held on 13th September. Refreshments were provided for visitors to our Church and a team of cyclists and walkers raised money over £200 for our church and for others.

Thank you to everyone who sponsored us.

Harvest Supper – cancelled

We have sadly had to cancel our Harvest Supper on 26th September as the Village hall is suffering from subsidence. All ticket money will be returned.

The Village Hall AGM will be held at the end of November when we will know more about the work needed.
